Groundwater Radioactivity in Charles County, Maryland
July 1, 2014
The Maryland Geological Survey initiated a study of elevated groundwater radioactivity in Charles County, Maryland. The study, funded by Charles County Department of Planning and Growth Management, will investigate the distribution of elevated groundwater radioactivity (including polonium-210) in several well fields operated by Charles County (Chapel Point Woods, Clifton-on-the-Potomac, Mt. Carmel Woods, and St. Paul). Additionally, the study will attempt to locate other areas where wells may be at risk for elevated radioactivity.
