Jeff Halka named Admiral of the Chesapeake
On Friday, September 27th, Jeff Halka, former Director of the Maryland Geological Survey was awarded the “Admiral of the Chesapeake” by Governor O’Malley. Frank Dawson, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources, presented the award on behalf of the Governor. Jeff Halka served the Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Geological Survey for over 38 years. He has studied the Bay throughout that time and he is the authority on sediment within the Bay. Jeff has served in a scientific, commercial, and navigational role improving our understanding of the Bay from a scientific, commercial, and economic perspective. The Department will surely miss Jeff and his outstanding contributions; however, we wish him the best in his future endeavors.
